Azumah Nelson is a former professional boxer from Ghana. He was born on July 19, 1958, in Accra, Ghana. Nelson is widely considered one of the greatest African boxers of all time.
Nelson had a successful career as a professional boxer, winning world titles in two weight classes. He held the WBC featherweight title from 1984 to 1987 and the WBC super featherweight title from 1988 to 1994.
Nelson had a reputation for his toughness, endurance, and punching power. He fought many top opponents during his career, including Jeff Fenech, Salvador Sanchez, and Juan Laporte.
Nelson retired from boxing in 1998 with a professional record of 39 wins (28 by knockout), 6 losses, and 2 draws. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2004.
After retiring from boxing, Nelson has worked as a boxing trainer and promoter in Ghana. He is also involved in philanthropic work, including supporting education and healthcare initiatives in his home country.
